phrasal verbs quiz

Hi Thom.
Did you have a pleasant week-end? I am still a bit isolated because of my wrecked car and I haven´t got a phone yet, therefore,no internet and no cable T.V.,but I had a very nice week-end reading a lot and falling asleep pretty late with the headphones on my ears listening to music. There is an excellent radio station you may have heard of,Futuro 88.90 F.m.PLenty of rock music and very little advertising.I reckon one of these days I´ll have some news about my car.It was a write-off and it seems they are going to pay me.That´s good news and, changing subject,I´ve got 11 out of 12 in the phrasal verbs quiz.
See you
Juan.

job as a paramedical

Hi Thom:
Even though I was accepted as a paramedical,as a doctor and as a nurse,I reckon I would take up being the doctor.Ever since I was a child,my aim has been to be a hero and this is my opportunity, I´ll grab it.As a matter of fact, the casualty I had to assist wasn´t really seriously wounded, his major risk factor was his age.He got a cut in his arm but it was "peanuts"
compared to what you can come across to at the Emergency Departament of a hospital.I have been told that to become an E.D. doctor, you have to specialise.Just imagine many casualties arriving at the hospital after a bus accident all at a time. Some of them are seriously injured, hell! you have to have the guts an be cold blooded. The assistants wait for the orders and decisions
of the boss,I mean the doctor in charge. That is what I call working under pressure.I am quite sure that you need some specific skills to manage in a place like that, perhaps some leadership
capacity and a strong belief in your service vocation among others.

Action Movie

Last Sunday we saw a very interesting movie with my wife Carola. We both do like action and happy ending movies. The story was about Jack and Jill,a couple that after having had a cup of coffee on a saturday morning, walked down Parkinson Street on their way home. They stopped at the shop -window of Brando to look at a leather jacket that Jack couldn`t resist to buy.You know, rich people just get into the shops and buy.I have to admit that the jacket was so beautiful that I myself would have bought it had I have the money.I think Jill paid for the jacket sinc it was Jack`s birthday and when they came out of the shop her handbag was open. Then the action starts;a woman in her thirties with long fair hair`wearing long black boots ,walked behind them. The weather was chilly and she walked with both her hands in the pockets of her white rabbit fur jacket. As she caught them up,she grabbed Jill`s purse from her open handbag.A young man that was standing at the supermarket door shouted to the couple telling them that the woman that was walking ahead of them had stolen Jill`s purse.Jack started running behind the woman, then a policeman showed up and the three of them ran behind her,who then realised she was being chased. She started running fast, boy! she was an athlete and as she was reaching the corner, an old little ladycarrying a heavy shopping bag stopped in the young woman`s way and began to give her some karate chops until Jack,Jill and the policeman arrived at the site and the woman was arrested. It turned out that the old little lady was a retired secret agent, but now was very poor so she was pleased to accept a $33 note that Jill gave to her as a reward.

homeworks

I guess the song is about a temporary splitting up of two musicians. The chap that sings says that it is o.k,but he is going to take a brek of a week or two.He is complaining about the attitude of his fellow musician that being wrong thinks he`s right, and he`s so sarcastic and no very bright. It`s all right, he`s going home and he`s sure he`ll be back soon.

I did the listening of the exercises and I felt quite good.Sometimes I get nervous because people some times speak quite fast and in a very familiar way among them and it is easier to understand a non native speaker of English.I reckon that I have to concentrate and relax.

soaring food prices

Most of the countries have a staple crop.Specially those which are poor and underdeveloped.I have read an article on a natural disaster and its relation with hunger.A week ago,a devastating cyclone hit the coastal region of Burma,a Southeastern nation whose staple crop is rice.Apart from the human drama this cyclone has created killing tens of thousands and leaving hundreds of thousands homeless, the situation created a coming hunger threat.that could become a hunger tragedy unless farmers are able to stand on their feet and be able to prepare the rice paddies. But to make matters worse, the cyclone has damaged stored rice and stored rice seed, and considering the world rice price that has rised in about 50 % the possibilities of solving the problem before the end of june, that is to say the coming of the summer monsoon are not many. The diversion of crops to produce biofuels instead of food for the people will carry consequences
.I reckon we are facing an even more likeable famine outbreak in many countries.Things are going to change and have to change. We are in the threshold of a new era .

Awesome

9/5/08

I `ve had the most impressive experience of my live so far just a few hours ago.Pete is dead and the pilot has both legs broken.Luckily Pamela,Borja and me are o.k,even though Borja has a terrible headache.I got a cut on my left arm but it doesn`t look serious. The people that were in the front seats of the small plane turned out much more damaged.Suan, the pilot is having a hell .We tried to fix her legs at the straightest position we could. The seat belts did a great job.We looked at the map and decided to do something. The heat was hard at the crash site,we had to make a shelter out of the wrecked plane so that pamela would take care of Susan while Borja set off to take a look at a fire we saw in the distance. There might be someone.Maybe a house. He hasn`t come back yet.We walked together toward the forest and there we chose a place to prepare a new shelter in case it will take long to get rescued or whatever.I cut a couple of wooden rods to make a stretcher to carry Susan to the woods.I hope Borja will be back soon with some news about that fire we saw.
